Jober as a sudge.

Posted by Slowplum on 5/30/2005 06:22:00 PM
Ok so. Last entry was pretty damn funny.

Woke up still drunk at 8 am. Finally sobered up around noon... just in time to drive 1-1/2 hrs to my cousin L's bridal shower. She got some really nice stuff!

I got her a Wedgwood oval Queen's Plain serving platter (click link to see what pattern looks like) from Bradshaw's because I knew that of all the things on her list she coveted that the most. I also got her a gorgeous sake set that came with a little tray and bamboo storage crate that was just lovely. And Zoodles. You read that right: I purchased for my darling L a can of Zoodles. It is her comfort food. :)

It was nice to see my family and all, and it sort of made me wish I lived a little closer. But I like the city I live in and would not want to move at this point.

My cousin V was looking well which gave me a little bit of relief because I've been really worried about her lately. She knows why.

Took the kids to see Madagascar on Saturday and you know, I really enjoyed it. It was just me and them and they were so excited and of course ate almost all their popcorn before the movie even started, but I love seeing their faces when they are anticipating something they've been looking forward to for a long time.

The movie wasn't half bad either. It was a good mix of kid humor & adult humor. The animation was campy but fun. The lemurs were pretty interesting...

I had more to say but I'm about to get the kids to C's first soccer game. I'll write about K's first game on my next entry. Boy was it a doozy. He is going to be awesome once he figures out he shouldn't swan-dive for the ball, throw it out of the kids' way so he can kick it, and actually stop when the ref blows the whistle. He's a pretty aggressive player but also pretty mindful - not once did he push or pull on a kid.

Ok time to go for reals.

ps ailie check yr email sometime, i sent you a pledge.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am participating in the relay for life this year. If you are interested in pledging me, please do so:

(removed pledge - no longer required)

I've never asked for pledges online before... so here goes nothing. I feel a little strange doing so but this is a very personal cause.

Thanks in advance!

tidbits

Posted by Slowplum on 5/21/2005 06:27:00 AM
tidbits:

C lost another tooth, both top ones are gone now and she couldn't look cuter.

I have to go in to work today and Monday. So much for a long week-end.

SO pulled ligaments in his left ankle at work. He'll be ok but the doc says he'd have been better off breaking it.

A guy at work came out last week as a trans-sexual. He expressed the wish to be referred to as a woman, from Monday onward. "She" is now going through the first stages before operation: hormone treatments, counselling, etc. She has been living as a woman everywhere but at work for some time now, and I give her ALL the credit in the world for being brave enough to come out and tell everyone who was present her situation.

The company management was uncharacteristically supportive, giving him a key to the unisex washroom mostly intended for guests (until the confusion dies down and people accept the situation) and even allowing him to wear a skirt the first day (out where he works, depending on the area, skirts are prohibited for their safety). The response from some employees have left me disgusted. Between the tittering behind her back, the disgusting remarks, and the threats, I am completely taken aback NOT by this woman's actions but by the actions of her so-called peers. Myself, I think it is terrific that she is finally able to walk and live the life as she wishes to. Though she needs a little help in the make-up department, and her hair needs a new style (she has the betty page look going, but the cut is too severe for her facial structure), but those things come with time and experience, and gentle guidance from friends.

Some people say she is sick and needs to talk to a psychiatrist... the mentality that is right up there with thinking a homosexual can just go to a therapist and be CURED of their homosexuality. Which of course is complete bupkus.

I'm just bothered by the reaction because some of the people reacting this way, I would never have expected to be so narrow-minded. Fortunately for her, the town we live in tends to embrace people from all walks and especially embrace the more flamboyant types (being a city that houses quite a few artists and actors, it is to be expected) but even so there are those who would shun and persecute these same wonderful people. I for one think it is terrific to have people from all walks (and preferences) living here and contributing to the community and part of the draw to living here is the diversity. Take away the festival and the galleries and the truly gifted people, and it's just another town.

Anyway, time to get ready to go in to work and pretend like I like being there.

on birthdays and tooth fairies

Posted by Slowplum on 5/16/2005 08:48:00 PM
C turned 7 today. She also woke up to one less tooth!

I want to share something with you that I discovered in her "tooth fairy pillow". It was a little note tucked inside that said "Dear Tooth Faery I want you to have this love your pal C ps turn over mesag." on the other side it said "It... is... a.... coat..." just like that with the dots. She had tucked a little barbie jacket inside the note. She was worried the tooth fairy would be cold with all the bad weather we've had.

It is for that reason and thousands more that I love her to bits.

I made her her favorite breakfast: chocolate chip pancakes. I cut them into hearts and that made her day like the dickens. Her teacher drew a charicature of her with her one-less-tooth grin and had each of her classmates say something that they liked about her. Then her teacher wrote it down and C got to bring it home with her at the end of the day.

I have more to say but never enough time to say it. I'm working crazy hours again, and am drawing the conclusion that I cannot in good conscience quit in September like initially planned, because SO's knees are going to hell in a handbasket doing the job he is doing, and I'd much rather he take on a job that gives a little less pay, and me keep working where I am. What's a little stress if my husband will be able to walk without pain?

I'm having little panicky moments because his workplace is turning everything helter-skelter, as far as their shifts go. We'll have to find new babysitting and I don't know what to do because I have this issue with trust especially when it comes to my kids and who gets to care for them. Call me crazy but it's true.

Ok time to go.

Forgot to post this yesterday (16th) so I'm cheating and putting that date down anyway. neener neener.

7 girls between 6 and 7 for 2 hours in an afternoon can make anyone crazy.

Posted by Slowplum on 5/14/2005 04:57:00 PM
Just finished up C's birthday party. Her real birthday is May 16th but Monday parties suck so we made it for Saturday before. We played various games I made up on the fly

- I cut a hole in a shoebox turned it over and made them see how many out of 6 plastic golf balls they could get in
- I made up a game "plink" with various circles on a big piece of bristol board in various sizes worth different points and put hello kitty stickers on my dollar store poker chips and each kid had to see how many points they could rack up.
- I cut up a big orange circle and big white petal-shaped pieces and we played pin the petal on the daisy

Then I had terra cotta pots with their names in sticker on it and big lady bug and buzzy bee metallic stickers all over and picked up various seeds and dirt and let them go to town planting their own flowers to take home.

Cake and ice cream and balloon fights and screaming and whooboy am I ever tired. I stayed up later than usual to watch House of Flying Daggers and then couldn't get to sleeep because K kept talking in his sleep so I stayed up watching crap movies all night and now I'm uber exhausted and I cannot believe I used the word uber in a sentence.

I've got a case of the blues coming on due to PMS and also nothing going right lately. I had made plans to visit my cousin V on the 28th and those may be going down the tubes due to babysitting issues. I'm hoping maybe I can see her the May 2-4 instead... will have to call later. I will send a note with my Aunt DPk since she's down here and all...

ok time to pass out.

MY DAUGHTER IS ALMOST SEVEN OMG! PANIC ATTACK!

happy mother's day

Posted by Slowplum on 5/08/2005 11:26:00 AM
Happy Mother's day to all.

Lots of stuff going on, no time to write it all down.

Having both my mother & mother in law and families over for supper tonight. Eep. Lots of food and guilt, hurrah!

I have two weddings to go to in a row this year, my friend SM & JH, and my cousin L & JC. Good thing: two completely different spheres of my life, so I can wear the same dress. Bad thing: Everything seems to be overlapping.

I am participating in the Relay for Life this year. I am setting up online donations, will let you know when.

Ok time to go.
